Indie Devs: Mark Your Calendars For These Global Gaming Events
If you’re an indie developer, you undoubtedly remember a time when gaming events were the absolute pinnacle of gaming releases. However, since the onset of COVID, we’ve seen gaming events change drastically. E3 is gone, and over the last couple of years, we’ve seen more events shift to the digital space. Yet, in the wake of major gaming event titans leaving the scene, we’ve also seen new events emerge internationally.
These global events are growing more and more each year and might just be the perfect opportunity to market your game
GamesCom Asia 2024
Gamescom Asia was initially planned to debut in 2019 but was delayed until 2021. The first event faced challenges with rigorous COVID testing but managed to succeed and has grown annually. In 2023, the event was a huge success with impressive metrics:
- Gamescom Asia 2023 gathered over 34,000 visitors from 67 countries and 136 exhibitors.
- This year, Koelnmesse is expecting 40,000 attendees and over 150 exhibitors at Singapore’s Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre. – GameIndustry.Biz
This event attracts the attention of some of the largest publishers due to the significant gaming presence in Singapore. If you’re looking to network for your game and can attend this event, it might be the perfect opportunity.
EGX LONDON 2024
While EGX is not a new event, it’s experiencing massive growth. In 2023, this event attracted over 100,000 attendees. EGX hosts a variety of events and this year is partnering with MCM Comic Con to create an even larger event than usual. This partnership presents a new opportunity to reach out to different press outlets and get your game in front of an entirely new audience.
GAMESCOM LATAM 2025
The first Gamescom Latam in 2024 was a resounding success, drawing more than 100,000 visitors from over 70 countries. It featured 124 exhibitors from 66 countries, over 200 publishers, and 700 studios, establishing it as a major event for the gaming industry in Latin America. The debut event sold out its weekend tickets and saw nearly 12,000 business meetings, setting the stage for a significant global gaming event.
Looking ahead, Gamescom Latam 2025 is poised to be even bigger. From April 30 to May 4, 2025, the event will be held at the Anhembi Convention Center in São Paulo, doubling in size compared to its first year. This expanded platform promises to offer even more opportunities for industry leaders and gaming enthusiasts alike.
HOW WE CAN HELP
As an indie developer, gaming events are more than just a fun weekend. They help you immerse yourself in the industry, surround yourself with like-minded individuals, and offer a host of opportunities:
- Networking: These events provide some of the best chances you’ll get as an indie developer to form lasting connections that can make a difference. Whether it’s publishers for your game, forming connections with the press, or just talking to other developers – this is your crowd.
- Press Appointments: Speaking of connections with the press, this is your time to start scheduling press appointments. Start talking about your game, show your passion, and grab lunch with people interested in your work.
However, some of this can be overwhelming if it’s your first event or you have an upcoming release. This is where a marketing/PR agency can step in and help. We have years of experience at events like these, and with a little media training/helping you secure some press targets, events can be game-changing.
Over the years, we’ve been to almost every major gaming event. We’ve done large-scale creative activations and we’ve also worked booths. Whether your team is just starting or looking to build a 20-foot-tall dinosaur statue at your next event, contact us at hello@reverbinc.com to discover what we can do for you.
